How to Prepare for a New Site

Are you thinking of creating a new website or working with a designer? Check out these ways to prepare yourself to make sure the process goes as smoothly as possible!

Content Creation
No matter what your industry or design style is, content is an essential part of your website. It is important to come up with copy that comes from your heart and educates your visitors. What type of content should you create? Start by mapping out the main pages you want on your website (Home, About, Services, Portfolio) and create copy and images associated with each. For example:

Home Page
The homepage is the first place your customers will learn first about you. Make sure to have a mission statement or elevator pitch that tells the user right away what you do and how you can solve their problem.

About Page
People want to see the face behind the business. They need a human connection and the about page is a great place to establish this. Customers want to know the why behind your business, the story on how it all began, and what your passion is. Some additional details or fun facts are always a great way to add a personal touch!

Services Page
Your prospective clients want to know more about what you offer, why they should hire you, and how your services can meet their needs. The services, products or experience page (whichever name you want to use) should be a page that educates the client about the importance of your services, why they should hire you, and why the investment is worth it. Show them your value!

Portfolio or Previous Work Page
What better way to show your website visitors your skill and value than by truly showcasing your amazing work. If you are a wedding photographer, then your prospective clients want to see your work and visualize themselves in a similar event or wedding photograph. Case studies and testimonials are also great ways to showcase the work you’ve done for previous clients.

In addition to coming up with curated and meaningful content, make sure you gather a variety of high quality photographs that you feel are your best work. Think about hiring a photographer to take professional photos of you and your business – this includes headshots and photos of your products and/or services. Humans are visual creatures and when it comes to your website appearance is everything!
